TJ: Interview With Small World LA

What inspired you to pursue a career in music, and when did you first realize you wanted to be a musician?

  • I remember when I was younger I used to write poetry and it gradually turned in to music I used to make songs that were all verse no chorus and thought I would blow up off that alone but around that time I used to watch my cousin and his friends make music and I used to write verses to his songs and one day in the fifth grade I made a song for a girl named Taylor Jamison and it was so bad my family roasted me and I ripped it up and threw it away only to continue writing other songs after and I haven’t stopped since
What are some of the biggest challenges you've faced as an emerging artist, and how have you overcome them?
  • Learning the difference who takes you serious and who’s taking advantage of you I’ve always had to keep my eyes open when it comes to inviting others into your passions not everyone will see your vision as you see it
  • Who are some of your biggest musical influences, and how have they shaped your sound and style?
My biggest musical influences are Mac Miller Andy Mineo and childish gambino listening to their music I learned that it’s okay to put your heart in your music and not hold back for anyone
  • My song writing process starts with finding a beat that I can’t get out of my head and then I draw inspiration from different situations of my life music helps me speak on things in such a way that Is much more difficult for me in person
How do you approach the songwriting process, and where do you draw inspiration from for your lyrics and melodies?
  • I always experiment with my sound and I have a few features on a few songs this year so stay tuned
What do you hope listeners take away from your music, and what message do you want to convey through your art?
  • I hope that you take the courage it took for me to make these songs and use it to get through rough times as it did for me
How has the music industry changed since you first started, and how have you adapted to those changes as an artist?
  • I started out as a Christian rapper going by novel t and though my faith hasn’t changed and I will always say I love god I’ve always known that music changes with time
What advice would you give to other emerging artists who are just starting out in the industry?
  • Keep grinding even if you have one viewer or you have ten and be patient you will see the people who are actually for you
